Honda Canada GDR sets out to bring home 2 championship titles.
Courtland, Ontario- It seems like the champagne corks were just popping mere months ago as Honda Canada GDR rider Colton
Facciotti clinched the 2014 MX1 Championship at Walton but its time to get back at it. The 2015 Rockstar Energy Drink Motocross
Nationals kick off this weekend at Whispering Pines Raceway in picturesque Kamloops BC and the GDR rig is loaded with the latest
arsenal of Honda CRF weapons ready to do battle. All eyes will be on the red #1 plate at Round 1 but Facciotti and the team are
feeling confident with a strong off season training regiment and an all new 2015 CRF 450R boasting more power, better handling and
lighter weight than last years already potent race bike. “We learned a lot about the bike during the ’14 season and in addition to the
upgrades Honda made from the factory for ’15 and with the right combination of world-class parts from our sponsors we have
assembled a bike that will no doubt give Colt a chance to win each time the gate drops.” Says Derek Schuster, team owner. “We had a
really strong off season as a team and although suffering a slight setback myself with an injury I’m back on the bike and feeling great”
says Facciotti. “We got some really good time aboard the new race bikes to get them dialed, Joe Skidd from SSS and Matt Jory from
Proven Moto have been a huge help and we’ve really improved on an already impressive 2014 race package” added Colton.
The off season was anything but relaxing for the GDR camp as they looked to add the next piece to their championship winning
formula and it came in the form of signing Jeremy Medaglia to compete in the MX2 class aboard the Honda Canada GDR CRF 250R.
“2014 was obviously a huge success for the team but after the checker flag dropped in Walton the team and I were already looking to
make our next big move and Jeremy was the guy we wanted no questions asked” said Schuster. “1 title is great, but 2 is better and we
really believe that with the addition of Jeremy and some new development on our MX2 race bike in the off season that we are a
legitimate title contender” added Derek. After a very tough 2014 season Medaglia is poised to return to the series to make a statement
“I cannot tell you how happy I am to have signed with GDR, it is a breath of fresh air to be a part of a team with a different philosophy
and way of doing things. It has really helped re-energize me and I’m back to having a lot of fun on the bike and just enjoying the whole
process” says Jeremy. 2014 MX2 rider, Westen Wroyzna, who made the jump to the ultra competitive pro class last season is back
with Honda Canada GDR for the 2015 season and will start his season at Round 5 at Gopher Dunes and compete on the eastern swing
of the series. “2014 was a big learning year for the team and Westen, this kid is one of the top up and comers and we have restructured
our approach with him for ’15 to help in his development which I feel will pay off in the long run”. Wroyzna will use the next
4-5 weeks to continue his training regiment, work with the team during the week and compete in local races in preparation for his
season debut.
New for 2015 is the addition of crowd favourite and veteran Kyle Keast. As part of a new initiative Honda Canada and GDR have
launched the Red Rider support program which will see Keast running a unique Red Rider graphics package and being supported by
the Factory GDR team. “Adding Keast into the mix is something I really wanted to do, he is a veteran of the series, he understands the
work required to compete and he’s just a great influence and role model for everyone…he really optimizes what Honda is all about”
said Schuster. Keast will be aboard Facciotti’s championship winning 2014 CRF 450R and look for him to battling every weekend in
the Top 10.
